Registration Opens for Food Drive Sorting Days (General Public)

Our Spring Food Drive is around the corner and once again we are inviting local high school students to join us to put in a little hard work, collect some community service hours, and have fun!  We will have a morning (9:30am-12:30pm) and afternoon (1:00-4:00pm) shift on April 9, 22 and 23, and will begin accepting applications on March 1st.  This is a very popular program and we want to allow lots of volunteers to participate, so students will be asked to choose just ONE shift when they first register.

Food sorting will take place at The Mississauga Food Bank warehouse – 36 – 2550 Goldenridge Road, Mississauga L4X 2S3.

The food drive is also popular with young families, so applications will be open to the public after March 15th.  Please note that children between 8 and 13 will require parental supervision.  Children under 8 may be tough to keep track of in our busy warehouse, so we recommend they cheer you on from home.

Registration will happen through our online database after March 1st, so please complete an online application or, if you have already applied, please update your profile, then follow these instructions:

1.       Click on the My Activities tab

2.       Click on Activity Sign Up

3.       Select Event Day Support – Spring Food Drive Sort

4.       Select ONE preferred shift

You will be contacted by email to confirm your shift no later than April 1st.

Spring Food Drive – April 1-29

From companies organizing internal food drives, individuals dropping off non-perishables at their local fire hall or grocery store, and religious groups having a collection barrel in their foyer, this is a great way for the Mississauga community to come together to ensure their neighbours don’t go hungry this Spring, as the food from this drive carries The Mississauga Food Bank through the summer.

Watch for our logo in your community and donate!

Our goal for this year is 60,000 lbs of food!

To register your community food drive, for more information on how to run a food drive or what items are most needed, please visit www.mississaugafooddrive.org.

For the volunteer Sorting Days (April 9, 22 and 23), you can find out how to register here.

$25 for 25

In honour of our 25th Anniversary, we are asking you to donate $25 for 25.

Whether it’s $25, $250, $2500 or more, your donations go a long way to feed those who are hungry in our community.

So what does your $25 for 25 contribution do?

  • $25 – With a financial donation of $25, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $210.25 worth of donated food – that’s enough to feed a family of 5 for their once monthly visit that provides 7-10 days worth of food?
  • $250 – With a financial donation of $250, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $2102.50 worth of donated food – that’s 841 pounds of food to breakfast programs that allows them to feed kids in need before they head off to school.
  • $2500 – With a financial donation of $2500, The Mississauga Food Bank can distribute $21,025 worth of donated food – that’s 8410 pounds of food to be supplied to one of our member agency food banks – enough to feed 336 people!

If you would like to make a special $25 for 25 donation, please go to our donations page and make a gift – choose $25 for 25 in the dropdown list.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Meghan Nicholls!
