Programs
Home Delivery Program
In partnership with St. Vincent de Paul groups and Hospice of Peel, food orders are picked up and delivered to families unable to access the food bank due to terminal illness, severe disabilities, advanced age, etc. This is done on a referral basis only.
Birthday Program
In the month of their birthday, each child twelve years of age and under is provided with an age and gender appropriate new gift.
Advocacy
Many of our clients have challenges other than food. By keeping abreast of many other agency programs, we can provide guidance and help put them in touch with the appropriate agencies to assist them in finding resolutions to these other challenges.
Partnership with “Breakfast with Santa Foundation”
Over 400 children and their parents are given breakfast at a hotel and the children meet Santa and receive a gift.
Partnership with the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund
The Mississauga Food Bank is the primary registrar for children 12 years and under of low income working families. Each child receives a holiday box containing age and gender appropriate gifts.
Santa Program
In partnership with corporate donors, selected families are provided with a memorable holiday. The selection is made by The Mississauga Food Bank staff (selection criteria could include: terminal illnesses, extreme poverty, etc.)
Volunteer Programs
The Mississauga Food Bank provides a safe and nurturing work environment for physically and mentally challenged young adults. The work program is set up in conjunction with Applewood School, Community Living, PAAR, (Peel Adult Assessment Rehabilitation), and the Brain Injury Association. The Mississauga Food Bank also provides supervision and direction to young offenders in a working partnership with the Elizabeth Fry Society and Associated Youth Services of Peel.
