Volunteering

Want to volunteer with us?

Volunteer opportunities at our partner agencies are at the bottom of the page.

1. Check out our volunteer hours.

Monday-Thursday from 9:30am-12:00pm or 12:30pm-3:00pm for volunteers 18 years of age and older only.

Wednesday evenings from 5:00-7:00pm are available for youth groups (Scouts, sports teams, etc.) that have their own adult supervision.

We do not have weekend or evening volunteer opportunities sorting food in the warehouse other than during the Spring and Fall Drives. We have occasional weekend/evening event opportunities (handing out donation bags at grocery stores, etc.) so if you wish to be notified of these opportunities, please register.

2. Register as a potential volunteer:

a) Individuals: Complete an online application form. By registering with us, you can describe your skills, interests and availability, and begin receiving regular e-blasts that provide news and information about volunteer opportunities. Please note that volunteer shifts are not confirmed until you have received a confirmation email from a member of our staff. We do not accept “drop-in” volunteers.

b) Groups: By going to our Corporate / Group Volunteering page.

What do our volunteers do?

Every day, our dedicated volunteers positively impact the lives of those living with hunger in our community. To say that The Mississauga Food Bank could not function without our volunteers is an understatement – their commitment is immeasurable and invaluable. Members of our community invest more than 13,000 hours every year, helping us to fight hunger and feed hope in Mississauga.

Volunteers help us by:

  • Doing various tasks in the warehouse: sorting food, picking agency orders, cleaning/organizing  – the jobs posted on our white board are different every day!
  • Staffing our reception desk
  • Assisting with administrative tasks
  • Providing support at special events
  • Organizing food drives
  • Contributing as a member of our Board of Directors and other committees
