Meet Alyssa, The Mississauga Food Bank’s Executive & Marketing Assistant:
“Living in the GTA my whole life, I never realized how many individuals, families, seniors, and children use a food bank or food program service. Now, knowing that over 15% of people in Mississauga live in poverty, I want to do as much as I can to contribute positively to this cause.
My favorite thing about working at TMFB is educating others about what we do. There are a lot of assumptions that are often made about food banks– most of my family members and friends didn’t know that we distribute fresh food– and in all honesty, I didn’t know that either before I started to work here.
Another one of my favourite things about working at TMFB is that all the staff here share the same motivation and drive to help feed the hungry neighbours in our community. Since we all share the same focus, it’s easy to work together in order to achieve our goal of A Mississauga Where No One Goes Hungry! I think it’s amazing how much we continue to grow as an organization, creating awareness and most importantly serving our community.
I am so proud to say I work for TMFB. I come into work each day with a smile on my face because I know that what I do is helping someone out there who needs it – and there is nothing more fulfilling than that.”
