black history month

During Black History Month, we are sharing the stories of Black leaders in our community and Black-led organizations that we at The Mississauga Food Bank are proud to work with.

Meet Darnell Rose who works in Assistance Community Service at Tender Mercies! 👋

Tender Mercies Food Pantry serves the diverse community of Mississauga, as well as people experiencing homelessness. Working with Tender Mercies has given Darnell confidence in himself and motivation to continue helping his community. “Supporting others and uplifting our community gives me a natural sense of accomplishment. Through Tender Mercies Food Pantry, we offer food delivery and walk-In services for people in need. And during festivities like the holiday season, our goal is to ensure that individuals and families that struggle with warm clothing and food insecurity are able to enjoy a holiday meal and that children receive toys too.”

Darnell is proud of what he does and finds it extremely rewarding to see how the organization has been able to serve the community. However, he recognizes that there are still challenges and obstacles that Black leaders and Black-led organizations face. “It is important to help support our Black community and treat each one equally, make it easy to participate in employee resource groups, training programs, and raising donations.”

Darnell, thank you for everything you do for your community! 💚🧡
