Thanks to the support of the community, Mayor Crombie’s 2022 Holiday Food Drive exceeded goals and raised $1,962,088 and 647,904 pounds of food.

The campaign, sponsored by the Nissan Canada Foundation, ran from November 14, 2022, to January 6, 2023, and exceeded its goal of raising $1,700,000 and 450,000 pounds of food.

“This holiday season, during a time when the need was more acute than ever, Mississauga stepped up and showed their support for their community, allowing us to not only meet but exceed our goals,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “Despite setting our highest-ever goal of raising $1.7 million and 450,000 pounds of food, we exceeded it, setting a new record of over $1.9 million and 640,000 pounds of food this year. Your generosity and support directly ensured that your neighbours had access to healthy and nutritious food over the holiday season. Your continued support will help The Mississauga Food Bank continue the fight against hunger in our city.”

The funds raised come at a vital time as The Mississauga Food Bank continues to see record-breaking numbers. In November 2022, the highest-ever number of monthly users visited The Mississauga Food Bank and its network of 50+ agencies. Since January 2022, The Mississauga Food Bank has seen 18% more food bank users every month, on average, compared to the same time last year.

“Every month that we are breaking a record is not a cause for celebration but a cause for alarm,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO. “The community heard the alarm and rose to the occasion, showing great generosity and compassion with their donations during Mayor Crombie’s Holiday Food Drive. But this emergency need continues past the holidays, and there is still more work to do to ensure our most vulnerable neighbours no longer face food insecurity. I urge you to get involved and help make sure every person has access to healthy and appropriate food all year round.”
