“The food bank is overwhelmed with the outcry of support from generous community members that help us get through these critical times. As needs continue to evolve, the food bank is reacting quickly to ensure access to food and everyone’s safety during the crisis. We’ve opened an emergency food bank, doubled our home deliveries through our Food Bank 2 Home program, and continue to see the rising need,” says Meghan Nicholls, Executive Director.

With Canada’s announcement to extend the country’s state of emergency until at least May 6, the food bank is anticipating a greater need for months to come as more people experience unemployment and economic hardship. The Mississauga Food Bank is putting out an urgent call to continue to fundraise with an updated total campaign goal of $1.165M.

“With over 7.1 million people filing for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) since it opened earlier this month, more of our residents are relying on food banks. With the end of the month quickly approaching, many are struggling to pay rent and make ends meet. While I am pleased that in record time, we reached our initial goal, this crisis has lasted longer than we expected, and as a result, so will the need. I want to thank everyone who has donated to The Mississauga Food Bank during this challenging time and urge those who have the means to continue to do so. They need our help now more than ever,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

“It is incredible that Mississauga was able to step up to the plate and raise $840,000 in a few short weeks. If we were able to rally together and get this far, we can surely make it to $1.165M. We are already well on our way towards this new goal. Who is with me?”, challenges Mohamad Fakih, CEO of Paramount Fine Foods.

Now, more than ever The Mississauga Food Bank needs the entire community to come together to continue to feed our hungry neighbours. Do you accept the challenge?

Be a part of this critical challenge and make sure every single family in Mississauga has food on their plate.
