Last October, when we expanded the farm to include a third fish tank, we were thrilled to stock it with new tilapia..

The young fish (called ‘fingerlings’) weighed in at a dainty 50 grams a piece at the time, but in the last six months, they’ve grown to a hefty 1.5 – 2 lbs each! Seeing that our tilapia were roughly the size of a dinner plate, it was the right time to harvest them.

After spending 3 days in our purge system, the fish were placed on ice and transported to a local food bank where they were processed into fillets for food bank clients. We are excited that the new tank is making it possible to provide even more servings of great protein to our neighbours in need across Mississauga!
