Meet Sunny, one of The Mississauga Food Bank’s volunteers:

“I started volunteering for TMFB as a Receptionist and Data Entry Clerk in 2017.

I volunteer because I am passionate about helping others and I feel that my volunteer work helps make a positive difference in the community, the city, and in people’s lives. It makes me feel warm and positive. It is always a great feeling to know that mywork helps people and contributes to the community in some way.

Volunteering at The Mississauga Food Bank also provides me with opportunities to learn a lot about hunger and poverty in Mississauga and its impact on people; as well as the resources and efforts to try to eliminate hunger and poverty in Mississauga.

In my first year volunteering here, a client who was experiencing homelessness had arrived asking for food and he didn’t have a can-opener. The staff and I welcomed him and searched through the warehouse trying to get as many non-canned foods as we could find. In the end, we were able to find enough non-canned foods for him to stuff in a large bag as well as other personal care products. When I presented the food to him, he was so thankful and relieved. I ended up having a nice little chat with him and found out that he was living out of his suitcase.

This moment showed me firsthand how homelessness in Mississauga is still occurring and how the staff at The Mississauga Food Bank are passionate about eliminating hunger and taking care of people in Mississauga.

The Mississauga Food Bank and its staff provide a great, welcoming, and positive atmosphere. By volunteering, you will be contributing to a great cause and helping people who are experiencing difficult times. It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the world, to learn new skills, and to meet great people!”

Thanks Sunny, for all that you do here at TMFB!
