The Mississauga Food Bank’s 2022 Thanksgiving Food Drive, sponsored by Keurig Dr Pepper Canada, ran from September 12 to October 10, raising $706,392 and 371,153 pounds of food.

Thanks to the support of the community, more funds and food were raised compared to last year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive. A group of generous donors also responded to the urgent need during the last leg of the campaign and matched donations up to $30,000. But there is still more that needs to be done to meet the increased need.

The Mississauga Food Bank has seen an almost 60% increase in food bank users from before the pandemic, now serving over 30,000 neighbours in need annually. There is an urgent and pressing need to raise more than double the funds to continue to support the growing demand for food bank services across Mississauga.

“The Mississauga Food Bank set an ambitious goal of raising $1,500,000 during the 2022 Thanksgiving Food Drive. Despite not reaching this goal, the community responded and made valiant efforts to try and meet the need for food banks that has more than doubled,” says Meghan Nicholls, CEO. “We need the community to continue to step up to the plate and support their hungry neighbours all year round. Whether through a monthly gift or participating in our upcoming Holiday Food Drive, please give where you’re able.”

While the Thanksgiving Food Drive may have concluded, the need and demand for food bank services continue to grow at an alarming rate. With the community’s support, progress has been made, but there is still more work to do. As we head into the holiday season, we urge you to get involved and help make sure every person has access to healthy and appropriate food all year round.
