To assist The Mississauga Food Bank to efficiently and effectively supervise the food sorting volunteers to ensure excellence and accuracy with the sorting task and to ensure all volunteers enjoy their volunteer experience.

Time Commitment

  • A minimum of 3 hours a week (1 shift) – 6 months commitment


  • Follow directions from the warehouse staff
  • Tour volunteer team through the warehouse
  • Familiarize the volunteers with our safety policy
  • Introduce the Best Before Date wall and food packaging procedure
  • Organize volunteers according to tasks and quantities of food
  • Support volunteers in accomplishing their role effectively
  • Provide an information  tour when needed
  • Keep sorting table area clean and tidy

  • Mature and reliable
  • Ability to  provide clear instructions
  • Enthusiastic  – people person
  • Ability  to work well with a diverse group of individuals
  • Must follow directions of the warehouse staff
  • Good knowledge of the food sorting various tasks
  • Be 18 or older
  • Ability  to lift 20 – 40 lbs

Health and Safety

  • Due to health and safety regulations, volunteers are not permitted to use equipment
  • Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times
  • Earphones are not permitted in warehouse
  • Phone calls are permitted in the volunteer lounge only
