The food sorting lead volunteer supervises the food sorting volunteers to ensure food sorting is done with a high degree of accuracy and excellence. They are responsible for ensuring the food sorting volunteers have a positive volunteer experience.

Time Commitment

  • A minimum of 3 hours a week (1 shift) – 6 months commitment


  • Follows directions from the warehouse staff
  • Conducts warehouse tours for new volunteers Leads volunteer team on warehouse tours
  • Familiarizes volunteer team with TMFB safety policy
  • Teaches volunteer team food packaging procedure and best before date guidelines
  • Assigns tasks to volunteer team
  • Support volunteer team in accomplishing their objectives
  • Keeps the sorting table tidy and well organized
  • Conducts warehouse tours for visitors when necessary

  • Strong oral communication skills, the ability to provide clear instructions to volunteers
  • Enthusiasm for working with others
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of volunteers
  • Willing to take specific direction
  • Good knowledge of TMFB food sorting tasks
  • 18 years old or older
  • Ability to lift 20-40 lbs

Health and Safety

  • Due to health and safety regulations, volunteers are not permitted to use equipment
  • Closed-toed shoes must be worn at all times
  • Earphones are not permitted in warehouse
  • Phone calls are only permitted in the volunteer lounge
