Canada Revenue Agency: Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)

Position Purpose:

To provide people who visit the agency food banks in Mississauga with accurate income tax preparation and benefit returns.


  • Complete income tax returns in accordance and using Revenue Canada supplied computer software
  • Report questions or concerns to the Income Tax Clinic supervisor
  • Ask participants for clarification of information when necessary


  • Ability to work with the public
  • Competence using computers
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy, patience and understanding/sensitivity to unique client needs
  • Basic understanding of income tax
  • An additional language (Arabic, Spanish, Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, Polish or another language will be an asset)

Time Commitment:

  • Three hours per shift (one-time or multiple shifts available) during mornings, afternoons, and evenings in March and April
  • Approximately 1.5 hours of webinar training which can be completed remotely

Various locations across Mississauga

Length of Appointment:

Varies: 3-hours shifts from February 5 to April 13th.

Boundaries and Limitations:

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information encountered in the process of completing duties
  • File returns in accordance with Revenue Canada guidelines
  • Report any and all concerns to the Income Tax Clinic supervisor

Training/Support Provided:

  • To be determined in conjunction with the Income Tax Clinic Supervisor
  • Includes access to Canada Revenue Agency training courses
  • On-site supervision and support provided by the Income Tax Clinic Supervisor.
