A staggering 20% of Mississauga’s children live in poverty and this number is growing. Not having enough wholesome food can have serious implications for a child’s physical and mental health, academic achievement and future. This spring, The Mississauga Food Bank is raising food and funds to ensure no child goes hungry in our city.
Our 2016 Spring Drive is launching on March 14, with goals of 85,000 lbs of food and $50,000!
We need your help to bring in our most-needed items: peanut butter, canned meat and canned fish.
There are many ways to get involved:
Whether it’s your goal to collect food, raise funds or a combination of both, Community Events of all sizes play a very important part in raising awareness about hunger in Mississauga and providing the food and funds we need to feed our hungry neighbours.
Here’s how to get started:
• Set a goal. Come up with your plan and choose dates for your drive. Aim for a specific weight, or try to fill a lobby, lunchroom or office. You can use your imagination to come up with a great idea – maybe a bake sale, scavenger hunt, or friendly competition between departments?
• Register your drive. Let us know the dates of your drive, if you need any collection barrels/boxes, or a pick-up.
• Spread the Word. Check out our Community Events Page for resources, including a customizable Spring Drive poster to print!
This year, we are partnering with COBS Bread to challenge Mississauga schools to raise the most food and funds for hungry kids in our city. The top elementary and secondary school food drive will be awarded COBS Bread for one year for their school’s breakfast club program! Register your drive.
