The Mississauga Food Bank has launched their 2021 Holiday Food Drive with the goal to raise $1,500,000 and 300,000 pounds of food this holiday season.

“The need for food never stops, and that’s why we are asking for our community’s help again this holiday season,” says Meghan Nicholls. “As you come together with your loved ones to share a festive meal, take a moment to think of those who can’t do so. Your help will ensure that hungry neighbours who struggle to put food on the table, let alone presents under a tree, can continue to access healthy and appropriate food these coming months and into the new year.”

This fall, The Mississauga Food Bank has already distributed over 912,700 pounds of food (a 25% increase from this time last year). That’s food for over 981,400 meals that has been distributed to over 11,800 food bank users across Mississauga. Their new Community Market program that launched in September has already provided over 40,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables to over 2,000 households. With your support, The Mississauga Food Bank can continue to provide these vital services to the community, and you will be giving a neighbour peace of mind as we head into the winter months.

Consider joining the Holiday Food Drive by donating funds – no amount is too small! Your monetary donation enables The Mississauga Food Bank to purchase healthy and nutritious food in bulk and at a quarter of the cost. You can also donate food, become a volunteer, or gather your friends, family, or coworkers to host a fundraiser or food drive in your community. Every donation will help feed hungry children, seniors, families and neighbours across your city.

As a festive and fun way to get involved, The Mississauga Food Bank also invites the community to participate in 12 Days of Giving. From December 1 to 12, collect the twelve food and household items our neighbours need the most. Put your donations in a box, decorate your unsealed box with holiday cheer, add a personal holiday message, and deliver it to The Mississauga Food Bank on Saturday, December 18, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at their Holiday Contactless Drive-Thru Food Drive. For more information, please visit www.themississaugafoodbank.org/12days.

The Holiday Food Drive runs until January 7, 2022. To learn more, or get involved, please visit www.themississaugafoodbank.org/holiday.

The 2021 Holiday Food Drive is proudly sponsored by the Nissan Canada Foundation.
