Bring your team of up to 12 people to support neighbours facing food insecurity with a food sorting volunteer shift!

About the opportunity

*Now booking for June and July 2024!*

You can organize your school or classroom, sports team, faith group or another community group for a great community-building activity while also giving back to neighbours in need! Help make a positive impact on your community – all you need is 3 hours. You will spend time sorting and packing food donations to prepare them to be distributed through our network of 65+ agency members across Mississauga.

Responsibilities

  • Sort food donations according to best before dates, package integrity, and food type to prepare them to be distributed to neighbours through our network, and inspect and package food donations to ensure they meet health and safety requirements.

  • Build, pack, label, scan, and stack food boxes, and recycle packaging materials, bale cardboard, etc.

  • Clean up the food sorting area with fellow volunteers at the end of the shift.

Qualifications

Continually initiate standardized infomediaries and efficient services.
Able to manually lift 20-40 lbs.
Able to stand for 2-4 hours.
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes such as boots or running shoes.
We welcome community and school groups with volunteers as young as 9 years of age. Any youth volunteers 14 years of age and older are able to volunteer independently if they choose.
Important Consideration: For those with food allergies, please be advised you will be potentially exposed to all types of food.

Time Commitment

One 3 hour shift

Available Shifts (June & July 2024)

Monday 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Tuesday 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday 9:30 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
