February is Black History Month, and this year’s theme is Black Resistance. To continue learning about and honouring Black Canadians’ contributions and amplifying their voices, we are sharing the stories of some of our volunteers during #BlackHistoryMonth. We are so lucky to count on such a dedicated and compassionate team!

Meet Dennis Izedonmwen, Food Sorting Corporate Volunteer!

Dennis started volunteering with us in April 2021 and leads a team from his workplace who volunteer with us every month. Ever since he learned about The Mississauga Food Bank, he felt very close to our cause.

“I wholeheartedly love the mission and vision statement that is deeply rooted in feeding those who go hungry and the prolific empathy to change our society.”

He believes that every effort makes a difference.

“As a unit, we are doing our part by helping feed hungry neighbours in our city. That feels gratifying with a renewed sense of purpose. I love to give back to people around me, and The Mississauga Food Bank is one of many channels to make this unique purpose happen.”

Dennis believes that The Mississauga Food Bank can use its platforms to amplify Black voices and stories as it can reach more people in our community.

“The Mississauga Food Bank can play an important role during Black History Month as it can help us create more awareness and inspire the community to take action in support of BIPOC.”

Dennis, thank you for everything you do for your community!
